Entrain The World To Wellness

Tap into the Power of Happiness J

"Who me?  I'm just one person.  I can't make a difference."  This was my friend's response when I asked him why he doesn't follow his dream to bring positive change to the world.

And isn't this how we all feel?  I mean, the world is so vast...the problems so extensive.  How can one person, or two people, or even ten or twenty or one hundred people really make an impact?

Well, let's take a little journey to the petri dish and find out. J

A single heart cell placed under a microscope will stop beating within a minute. But when two cells are placed under the microscope together, they stay alive. Furthermore, they beat at the same rhythm.  This resonance between the two cells is called entrainment.

Out of the Petri Dish and into the World J

And guess what? This happens with people too! J When two people are in close proximity, their hearts begin to beat in synchronicity. Just like the cells, they entrain.

And the heart that is in control of this entrainment is...you guessed it...the one with the most harmonious, consistent heart rate!

So how can you be the one in control?  You find as much peace, love, and joy as you can stand! J

And remember how to find that peace and joy?  You take your attention away from whatever pesky situation life is throwing your way, and you think about something wonderful.  Go ahead.  Try it now.  I know you already did it last month.  Do it again J

Take a deep breath and think of something completely delightful.  The smell of jasmine from the garden, your fuzzy lovable pet, or maybe a small child being incurably cute.  Stay in that memory for just a moment.....

Done!  Consistent heart rate achieved.  POWER over those in your proximity accomplished J

Flex Your Power!!

The more peace, love and joy you feel, the more POWER you have to entrain the hearts of the people in your life.

And what happens when people entrain to your harmonious heart rate?  THEY gain all the benefits of YOUR peace and happiness!  They have better immune function, lower blood pressure, better memory, and of course they just feel GOOD J

And when you take this power into the community, the results are astounding!

A group of people got together in Washington DC, just to see what would happen when they all consciously created peace in their hearts. The results? Violent crime was reduced by nearly 25% over the eight week study, and the number of participants was less than 1% of the population!

Less than one percent of the population! Think about that. If you have a company of 300 people, it only takes THREE of you to increase the harmony of the entire company.

So what to do with this newfound power?  Be the superhero you always knew yourself to be!

Standing in line behind a grumpy customer?  Talking with a teller who looks like she's way overdue for a lunch break?  Or maybe you're having a heart-to-heart with someone who's really down on her luck.  The remedy is the same.

Take a deep breath, down into your belly, think of how cute your child looks when he's sleeping.  Your heart opens, the edges of your mouth curl up in a smile, and you begin to entrain whoever you're with.

The grumpy people in your life won't know what hit them!  They will feel the sunshine as it walks into the room in your heart, and despite their resistance, they'll feel the peace in their own hearts J

Go ahead.  Take charge.  Breathe from your heart and entrain the world to wellness.

Peace, blessings, and hugs to all!

Still the Mind Without Sitting Still

Still the Mind Without Sitting Still J

"Just sit still and think of nothing. It's easy." That's what my meditation teacher told me years ago when I approached a Master in need of relief from insomnia and arthritis at age 22. My response: "Whaaaa? Think of nothing?!?! I'm sorry, but you have the wrong gal for that!"

Have you ever felt like your mind is a runaway train? You've got thoughts of finances and groceries and traffic and kids and it's all spinning out of control...

Sure, sitting still would be great if you had the time, and thinking of nothing would be a nice reprieve from the barrage of thoughts your mind spins out on a moment-to-moment basis.

The benefits of meditation are extensive, ranging from increased immune function to better learning capacity. But seriously folks, who actually DOES it??

Ready for some tricks to tame the wild beast that is your mind?

Talk to the Heart!

When you really need something done, you go to the boss, right? Well, the boss of the brain, and the monkey mind, is actually the heart. So to quiet the mind, we must speak to the heart.

The heart has an electromagnetic field that is 500 times more powerful than that of the brain. The beat-to-beat variability of your heart is called coherence, and it influences your blood pressure, hormone function, immune system, your ability to think clearly and to learn, and your level of inner peace. The more consistent your heart rate, the better.

"OK, great," you may be saying. "I need to create consistency in my heartbeats. But don't I need to live in a cave in the Himalayas for twelve years in order to achieve that kind of control?"

NO! You can do it right now, this very minute. I am 100% sure. If you have 30 seconds, you can turn off your stress response, and turn up your inner calm.

Take a moment right now, and think of someone or something you love. A child, perhaps, or a pet. Or maybe you have a favorite spot in the garden, or a memory of a good friend. Close your eyes, or soften your gaze. Feel your heart begin to open. It's OK. Nobody is watching J Allow yourself to appreciate this person, animal, place, or memory. Now dwell on that feeling for just a moment....

You just created coherence! J One thought, 10 seconds, and you changed your heart rate, reduced your blood pressure, increased your immune function, and improved your ability to learn and retain information.

Now imagine if you did that ten times a day? Or twenty? Waiting in line at the Post Office? Think about the inside joke you had yesterday with your child. Got an overdue bill in the mail? Remember how wonderful the sun felt on your face this morning. Deadline at work? Take ten seconds to bask in appreciation for your best friend.

Now imagine if we all did that ten times a day? J Imagine the fun we'd have. Imagine the smiles. Imagine the cooperation.

Ha! You did it again! More coherence!

See how many times you can trick your friends into coherence this month J Make them smile. Share a beautiful story. Give free hugs.

Spread health in your body and your life by sneaking up on your mind and opening your heart.

Peace, blessings, and hugs to all!

Athletes and Actors Know the Zone. Do You?

Find "The Zone"and Kiss Your Stress Goodbye!

Have you ever watched an athlete in the zone?  You can see the calmness, readiness, alertness, joy, peace, and steadiness all at once.  You know he or she is ON that day.

Have you ever noticed these signs in yourself?  Have you ever had that magical feeling where you know things are falling into place?  Where you know the next step you take will be the right one?  Where everything is in clear focus, even slow-motion?

Would you LIKE to feel these signs in yourself?  Would you like to turn off the stress and get into the zone anytime you like?

Well I have some amazing news!  New research from Marcus Raichle, a professor at Washington University School of Medicine, shows that the zone is really your natural state of mind!

This natural state is like a cerebral symphony, with each part of the brain playing perfectly with the rhythm of the moment.  Each part of the brain is in synch, and they're all in harmonious communication with each other via the conductor.

Like beautiful and lively music, this state of mind is calming and yet energizing, peaceful and inspirational, creating a state of relaxation and high-readiness.  It's a balance of the stimulating SNS (sympathetic nervous system) and the calming PNS (parasympathetic nervous system.) This is the zone.

How Do I Create this Natural Symphony?

"OK, cool.  Now I know what 'The Zone' is," you might be saying.  "But how do I get there?"

Most of us stumble upon this state of mind and body by accident.  You're in a good mood, had a good meal, a nice chat with a friend, an exhilarating run in the park on a sunny day... And all of a sudden the answer to a long-standing  problem just pops into your head, or that name you'd been trying to think of suddenly lands in your consciousness.

But how do we create the zone on demand?  Or better said, how do we get back to our natural state of being?  With a simple kiss J

Three tricks are at your disposal at every moment of every day, and they spell MWA!  That's how I spell kiss, anyway

M stands for MOVEMENT.  Moving your body gets your blood moving, which gets oxygen and nutrients moving throughout your system, and it stimulates your brain into alertness.  Go ahead.  Try it now.  Wiggle your toes.  Wiggle your hips.  Sway from side to side.  Do you feel more awake?  More alert?  Did you smile even though you were trying not to? J

W stands for WATER.  Water generates energy in your body by powering little hydroelectric pumps in each cell.  The more water you drink, the better these turbines turn, and the more energy your body can make!

A stands for AIR.  Your blood can only pump oxygen if you bring it in with deep breaths!  And breathing has other magical powers as well J Taking a full breath in will stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, which releases chemicals that promote alertness, excitement, and pain relief.  Taking a long breath out will activate the parasympathetic nervous system to reduce stress and increase peace.  Breathe in the alertness....  Breathe out and feel the peace.  In...excitement  Out....relaxation.

Kiss your stress goodbye, and welcome yourself into the zone, your new natural state of being J

Peace, blessings, and smiles to all!

Simple Self Healing- How to Heal Yourself by Having Fun!

Heal Yourself by Having Fun!

Wouldn't it be great if you could go to your doctor and get a prescription for playing hooky from work on Friday?  "I've been having heartburn," you'd say to your boss, "and my doctor has told me the only solution is to find some exhilaration in my life.  So I'm going to drive my bicycle to the top of Mt Diablo, and ride down like I used to do when I was a kid.  I'll see you on Monday!"

As much as that may seem like trickery, it isn't.  Thanks to the work of Candace Pert, PhD, we now know that every thought and feeling has a molecular equivalent that surfs your bloodstream and reaches each of the 3 trillion cells in your body.  When you're stressed, each of your cells is also stressed, and stressed cells rebel!

But here is some amazing news!  Your internal pharmacy has much more up its sleeve than molecules of stress.  Your body has the ability to make the most powerful immune stimulators and health enhancing chemicals.  One such chemical is called interleukin 2.  Interleukin 2 has been shown to wipe out certain types of kidney cancer and melanoma in one single course of treatment.  This treatment isn't widely used only because of the cost, which is around $40,000 per treatment.  But your body can do this ON ITS OWN.

If you take your bicycle to the top of Mt. Diablo, ride down the path, and feel a sense of EXHILARATION, then your internal pharmacy will make millions of dollars worth of interleukin 2!  That's right, you will make enough of this powerful immuno-stimulator to cure several cancer patients.  Just think what that could do for your heartburn!  Of course, you have to enjoy yourself J  If your idea of exhilaration is surfing the Santa Cruz waves, or spending the day reading quantum physics, then you had better do that! :)

What if I can't get the day off to have fun?
You may be saying to yourself, "That's a nice idea, but my boss won't agree to it.  He/she doesn't see the link between my health and happiness, and the success of the company.  I can't get the day off."  There are three solutions to this dilemma, and I recommend that you do all three!

The first is to take a few minutes to visualize your exhilarating ride down Mt. Diablo.  The body takes its cues, and receives its molecules of exhilaration, from the brain.  And the brain doesn't know the difference between a visualized experience and an actual experience.  It makes the same chemicals for both situations!  So you can ease your heartburn with a visualization.

The mind does eventually catch on, however, so the second solution is to PLAN a fun adventure.  Even if you have to wait two months before you can get a single day off, planning the day NOW will get your brain to produce much more of those feel-good chemicals while you imagine the trip that will actually take place in the future.

The third solution is to educate your boss!  Take tidbits from what you've learned here, and empower your boss, your co-workers, your family, and your friends.  Just think how great the world would be if we all could see the health benefits of having fun.  The guilt from taking moments for yourself would be gone.  Productivity would increase.  Morale would increase.  Cooperation at work and at home would skyrocket.

This is the change I hope for, and as Gandhi said,  "You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

So go forth, have fun, and in doing so, make the world a better place.

Teaching others how to get more life out of their lives is what creates exhilaration (and interleukin 2 :)) for me!
